Visual Effects for Video

In today's world of special effects, practically every film incorporates some type of effect. Film producers and editors are getting more and more requests to add effects to their work. Even independent and short films take advantage of the tools to create these effects. Whether it's a shot of a futuristic city or a person riding a dinosaur, these types of effects are becoming more accessible to the average filmmaker.

Participants in this workshop go through the pre-production, production, and post-production processes involved with making an effects sequence; creating graphic elements, shooting green screen and live-action footage, and compositing the results together. This course also covers a variety of methods for compositing and layering video clips, as well as some special effects and animation techniques.

Using programs like Photoshop, After Effects, Motion, and Final Cut Pro, students learn to create and process special effects sequences to create just about any imaginable combination of video and graphics. Topics include compositing, animating, rotoscoping, tracking, multiplane animation, CG matte painting and more.
