Through lectures, demonstrations and screenings, the class explores advanced digital cinematography and lighting topics such as exposure meters, the zone system, color temperature, mireds and other complex subjects. Lighting equipment used includes Tungsten, hmi, Ceramic, Fluorescent and LED. Safe handling of electrical distribution is emphasized. Afternoons and evenings are spent on location and in the studio testing theories and gaining practical experience in various lighting situations: day-for-night, available and mixed light, magic hour, fire and candle light, and product shots. Students work long hours as a professional crew while learning to control the image for various video cameras. Footage is reviewed and critiqued daily. It is recommended that all level 2 and 3 students take the Basic Lighting and Grip workshop beforehand. Level 2 students must attend the Set Etiquette and Safety Crash Course before this workshop unless they have already taken the Basic Lighting and Grip workshop.
